THE RELATIONSHIP: Mentors and mentees are matched during the spring of the mentee's junior year of high school. The match meets monthly following the program curriculum that guides them through the admissions process. The match continues until the end of the mentee’s senior year when it culminates with graduation. Mentees and Mentors can keep in contact after that although they will no longer be under the umbrella of the CAMP mentoring program.
MENTOR COMMITMENT: Mentors commit two years of involvement beginning in the fall of their mentee's junior year. In the fall semester mentors will attend three trainings before being matched with their mentee in December. The trainings will outline: Mentor Benefits; Program Curriculum; Mentor Expectations. The fall orientation includes a mentor dinner and an invitation PlatteForum’s openings. The program aims to meet the needs of the mentee as well as the personal growth of the mentor. The mentor gains multicultural awareness and understanding through working with minority groups, first generation college students as well as building a civically engaged community.
THE CURRICULUM: Matches will follow the month- to-month curriculum created by admissions counselors with complete support to be creative and flexible with ideas and schedules. The mentors/mentees will receive a manual they use to track their progress. The programs sets a structure for the admissions process and helps to create a timeline to keep the college applicants on track but also leaves room for the match to personalize the process.
