Background:
Arts Street is a project-based, paid job-training program
that employs youth to "Learn, Earn & Give.”
The program uses the arts as a catalyst to engage teenagers
to explore careers, identify education options, contribute
to the community, and learn to be part of the fabric
of Denver society. Youth ages 14-21 are involved in
producing artwork for community clients while they gain
life skills and workplace competency skills. Arts Street
is a project of the Mayor's Office of Workforce Development
of the City and County of Denver. The College of Arts
and Media of the University of Colorado at Denver partners
with Arts Street and has been providing work facilities
and invaluable support on the Auraria Campus since the
program’s inception. Since 1999, Arts Street has
employed and trained over 850 youth apprentices and
has involved over 4,000 young people in arts career
exploration. |
