Rocky Mountain Expeditionary School emphasizes high
achievement through active learning, character growth
and teamwork. The first grade class, led by “crew
leader” (they are not referred to as “teachers”)
Keziah Decker, has researched, choreographed and written
“Entertainment in Motion”, a musical trip
around the world. Students researched New Mexico, Australia,
China, Uzbekistan, India, Hungary, Russia and Trinidad
to find out about the music, clothing, traditions, and
forms of entertainment of each culture. The play follows
a girl’s travels around the world with a group
of clowns. Together they enjoy ribbon dancing, Chinese
“yo yo” acrobatics, fencing, yoga and gymnastic
feats. The students collaborated with local musician
Jimmy George to create the music for the show.
The performance will be held outside
in the Riverfront Plaza, next to PlatteForum, 1610
Little Raven St., Suite 125, at the foot of the Millennium
Bridge.
Denver artist Carlos Fresquez has
been working with students from Horace Mann Middle
School in Northwest Denver. Together they explored
their own personal heroes-ancient, present and future—and
created artwork honoring them. Inside PlatteForum,
Carlos is exhibiting his series of works entitled
“La Raza Cosmica”. His paintings loosely
explore the fusion of the races – white, black,
yellow, and red – into a “cosmic race.”
Carlos has taught at the University of Colorado at
Denver, Metropolitan State College and the University
of Denver. |
