Carlos Frésquez

Carlos has been working with students from Horace Mann Middle School in northwest Denver. Together they explored their own personal heroes – ancient, present and future – and created artwork honoring them.

THE SUPERHEROES, HORACE MANN STUDENTS

Wonderful personal pictures spin and revolve. Autobiographical images appear and vanish. Beautiful collaged scenes are combined with bright dribbled paint.

Horace Mann students were asked to share their heroes and sheroes. These talented 8th graders were asked to create artwork honoring those they look up to. So from this we see modern musicians, ancient Aztecs, sports figures, family members, superheroes, objects and things of importance all swirling within the circle of the vinyl album.

This round book is a revolving cycle, just like the seasons, just like life. This disk is like the Aztec calendar/sunstone, it tells of a time. The time of the past - our history, the present - the here and now, and the future - our children.

We ourselves must give to our community so we receive an even greater community. So go ahead, spin this wheel of fortune, we all need the chance to become our own superhero.
